tinder recently made a MASTERPIECE of a commercial completely taking accountability for its part it’s played in the recent normalization of hookup culture & flipped it manifest the potential connection you could make with someone that could lead to a lifetime of love; a true work of art & whoever came up with that concept deserves a GIGANTIC raise. a LARGE majority of the younger population can admit to online dating, & probably have enough love stories, horror stories, stories that you race home to tell your best friends about & stories that make you crawl out of your skin that make life just that much more interesting.
a majority of the younger audience can relate to sitting with their friends or alone at the end of the today swiping left or right deciding someone’s potential & worth based on a couple pictures & short sentence that hopefully captures your attention enough to get interested enough to give them a chance.
i think online dating is the way i’ll explain the dating scene to my future children & grandchildren of how the search for love worked “back in my day”. i’ll tell them about all the matches that became great friends, the ones that ended prematurely, the ones who ended in heart break, & the ones who made me believe that love isn’t really dead, no matter how many people wanna say that it is.
i have so many friends who have met their significant other on a dating app; i always love to hear their made up stories they tell their parents of how they “met” to avoid the acknowledgement that they didn’t listen to the “stranger danger” rule. it’s sweet that people can meet 5, 10, 50, 100 miles away all at the palm of their hands; they can also find whatever they’re looking for: a one night stand, a friend to talk to, a date, even someone to exchange vows with & to love through sickness & in health.
the normalization of meeting online, IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT, has become something people would have never even imagined in my grandparents age. in a world where connections with anyone can happen at anytime & anywhere, i chose to empower people to take advantage of these resources SAFELY. the only way to find the love of your life is to meet more of the ones who ARENT the love of your life, making it one heartbreak closer to finding whoever you’re meant to be with.
so, however you decide to seek out the love of your life, in the wild or online, it’s valid. sometimes rent is due, & you find yourself meeting the person you were always meant to find on your phone screen, & to that, i just say “how innovative of you !”. tinder ATE with this commercial, & it presents the innovation & the progressive future we are living in. i hope one day your one nightstand turns into two night stands ! happy searching everyone, your person is out there !!!!
