the camera loves you as much as i do.

Updated: Jun 29, 2023

being apart of my life involves getting a camera shoved in your face an uncomfortable amount of times until it one day just becomes normal. I have an unhealthy habit of taking pictures of everything in my life: the people I surround myself with, the places I visit, the food I consume, and everyday activities being done. A picture says a thousand words, and I have yet to take enough pictures to truly illustrate how much love I have for all of it.

the love I have is made for movie screens, social media posts, picture, frames on walls, phone wallpapers, and computer backgrounds. They serve as a time capsule that holds the people we were the moment the camera clicked and as a reminder of who we once used to be. I search for glimpses of the past when I scroll through my camera roll, laughing at all the behind the scenes moments that the picture didn’t catch and all the versions of myself that used to exist within it. years from now, i hope that in my search of a good memory, I am surrounded by hundreds of them ranging from high school, to my time at Florida state, to nights out, meals ate, and breath-taking moments that will make me unapologetically proud of all the joy my life has bestowed upon me and those who have experienced it alongside me. I want to reminisce whenever I please to. I want to go down memory lane one day with someone who hadn’t been apart of my past and suffocate them with enough pictures and memories that gaslights them into believing like them too were apart of the moment.

We have only seen ourselves through reflections and photographs; I, personally, love to see my life through the camera’s point of view. None of us have ever seen the way our own individual smiles beam through conversations full of passion and we have never seen the way our eyes light up when we see something we love. The only way we could ever get to know ourselves better, have a deeper understanding of the curves and edges of our physical bodies, is through the camera lens. the camera does not discriminate against what you do or don’t want to see, and it will be the friendly reminder that nothing is more sacred than the moments shared and experiences lived that our cameras have captured.

The camera loves you as much as I do, and I will continue to shower you in moments of appreciation that only my iphone camera can show you. Every time I pull out my phone and take one more picture for the road, know that it comes from a place of adoration and for our future selves to one day use them as a conversation starter after an extended period of time not in communication, as a comedic relief, as a memory, and as a way to show you how much I once loved you.

with all my love,

steff
