this is your reminder that there is still an entire world out there for you to meet. you will meet people, randomly, that will one day turn into your favorite people; & it’s okay if these once "forever people" turn out to not be so forever, & these "favorite people" become not-so-favorite anymore.
you will find the people who speak to your soul, loudly & passionately. you will outgrow & evolve out of yourself, & the people you surrounded yourself with during that season of your life. it will be unfortunate at times. you will grieve the hands you used to hold in times of hurt & the shoulders you used to lean on when the world around you started to crumble. you will mourn the memories you made with them, keeping them tucked away in the back of your mind until you see something out & about that reminds you of it; visiting you on a random day of the week, just for you to hold on to it tighter than you used to, then releasing it once again for it to come to you another time.
living in the present will keep you from having the mental capacity to believe that there will be better experiences, people, and opportunities out there for your taking. as much as “living in the present” is preached, let me play devil’s advocate: in every stage of my life, i have believed that i had found “my people”. i would believe that i had found the people that will follow me in life and i would mentally forbid myself from ever thinking of another narrative of life where they do not exist, in the sake of “living in the moment”. & yes, they were my people once, they were the people i needed in that space and time, and my appreciation for them remains all the same. this is an innocent way to live, optimistic of the life being lived, but you are constantly changing and mortifying into the person you are meant to be. things change, life changes, and you might lose some people along the way…thats okay
you will go to different cities, countries, & continents in this life. you will find the people that make your skin feel like glitter and your heart feel full and satisfied after a long day. you’re going to take a left instead of a right & you will run into these people on the way to nurturing yourself.
no matter how suffocating the life you are living is now, remind yourself of all the possibilities & people this world have for you to explore. enjoy the loneliness life has in store for you to bathe in; patiently waiting for the people that ARE meant to.
